Sailors from across the USA head to Harbor Springs annually for a favorite tradition: the Little Traverse Yacht Club’s Ugotta Regatta. This year, LTYC celebrated the 65th running of the regatta from July 24-26. With a strong turnout, the dozen-boat J/111 fleet enjoyed excellent racing on the Bay. After splitting the first two races with 1-2 records, it looked like Jeff Davis’ SHAMROCK team from Cleveland, OH might have the upper hand over Scott Sellers’ NO SURPRISE. Going into the final race, SHAMROCK held a 2-point lead over NO SURPRISE, but SHAMROCK’s 8th opened the door. In the no-discard series, Sellers’ NO SURPRISE won the regatta with a total of 11 points, 3 points clear of Davis’ SHAMROCK. Rounding out the podium was a team from Lake Charlevoix, MI; George Golder’s TERRIER crew sailed a solid series to take third with 22 points total. The balance of the top five included Brad Faber’s UTAH in fourth with 32 points, narrowly beating the crew of MOMENTUS, skippered by Kevin Saedi, by 2 points.
