After a couple days of rocking and rolling on Lake Erie, ideal winds of 10-15 knots from the Northeast allowed another three races at the J/111 North American Championship. Eight races are now in the books at Lakeside Yacht Club in Cleveland, Ohio, and the discard came into effect Friday. There were no changes at the top of the leaderboard: Peter Wagner’s Skeleton Key (14 points), Rob Ruhlman’s Spaceman Spiff (21 points) and Andrew & Segdwick Ward’s Bravo (21 points). Racing concludes Saturday for the eight boats. Jeff Davis’ Shamrock continues his rise up in the standings, including a win in the day’s opening contest, chased by Ruhlman’s Spaceman Spiff and Bill & Jackie Baxter’s Fireball. Wagner’s Skeleton Key then added his fourth bullet of the event, as the Ward’s Bravo and Ruhlman kept pace. A new name came to the forefront in the last battle: Carrabine & Young on Black Seal. Davis and the Wards followed. Photos are available on the J/111 Class Facebook page, and complete results are available at https://yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=15146.
