The second edition of the Southernmost Regatta, powered by Sailing, Inc., was sailed from January 16-20 in the gorgeous waters off Key West. Fleets enjoyed the benefits of a slow-moving front that passed over at the beginning of the week, and the ensuing northerlies slowly veered over the week into the east and then southerly quadrants, with breezes mostly in the 8-15 knots range. The J/111s enjoyed spirited racing at the top of the leaderboard. It was Peter Wagner’s Championship team on SKELETON KEY who had the upper hand on the six-boat fleet, and with four bullets in their scoreline finished with 13 points net. After a strong start that included three bullets in the first four races, Rob Ruhlman’s family team on SPACEMAN SPIFF was comfortably leading the fleet. However, they dropped to the bronze medal step on the podium. Meanwhile, Andrew & Sedge Ward’s BRAVO started off slowly, counting two fifths in a row, but came back strong in the last three races with a trio of deuces to snatch the silver medal by a single point with 18 points net.
