Stratford Shoal Gearbuster Race

Over Columbus Day weekend was the Gearbuster race run annually every fall by Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, CT. It’s a long day race around various government buoys in western Long Island Sound. Winning the 10-boat PHRF B Division was Bill & Jackie Baxter’s J/111 FIREBALL by nearly 24 minutes corrected time. The 19th Ida Lewis Distance Race hosted 45 teams. New Bedford Yacht Club in MA hosted its annual New Bedford Regatta on Buzzards Bay. The two days of racing offered sailors great conditions on the bay that is famous for its strong seabreezes that materialize most afternoons. This year’s 289.0nm Chicago Mackinac Race saw the fleet start in light to medium southeasterly winds and bright sunshine. By 2:00 pm, all boats were on their way north up to Mackinac Island.
